About The Position

Liberty Resources is seeking a detail-oriented Medical Records Specialist to support the secure processing and release of patient health records. The role reviews medical record requests, verifies authorizations, maintains compliance with HIPAA, Mental Hygiene Law, Code of Regulations, Liberty Resources policies, and other applicable state and federal regulations, and ensures timely fulfillment of records requests.

This is a full-time position based in East Syracuse, New York, working Monday through Friday during regular business hours.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Knowledge of HIPAA and other privacy regulations, including Mental Hygiene Law and Code of Regulations, and medical records procedures.
• Experience with EHR systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

• Associate's degree preferred; two years of relevant experience may be substituted.
• Experience with NextGen and Evolv.

Responsibilities

• Receive, review, and process medical records requests from authorized parties.
• Verify patient identity and validate authorization forms for compliance.
• Determine which records may be disclosed in accordance with HIPAA minimum necessary standards.
• Securely transmit records via email, portal, fax, mail, or other approved methods.
• Maintain accurate logs of requests, disclosures, and turnaround times.
• Use electronic health record (EHR) systems and digital documentation tools to manage records efficiently and securely.
