About The Position
The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a clinically focused and academically driven Medical Physicist for a full-time, open-rank faculty position. Tenure status, academic rank, and compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will participate in all aspects of clinical medical physics support, quality assurance, and radiation safety across our main campus and regional satellite clinics. The department strongly supports academic development and expects faculty to build collaborative, clinically relevant research programs. Faculty are encouraged to collaborate across UAB’s Heersink School of Medicine and its nationally recognized academic and research infrastructure.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Medical Physics, Physics, or a closely related field
- ABR certification in Therapeutic Medical Physics (or board-eligible with completed CAMPEP-accredited residency)
- Demonstrated record of scholarly achievement
- Strong commitment to clinical excellence, teamwork, and academic collaboration
- Able to demonstrate a record of scholarly achievement
Responsibilities
- Participate in all aspects of clinical medical physics support, quality assurance, and radiation safety across our main campus and regional satellite clinics.
- Provide clinical scope including IMRT, VMAT, IGRT, respiratory gating, Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) and Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT), Interstitial and intracavitary HDR brachytherapy, I-125 eye plaque therapy, Total Body Irradiation (TBI), and Photons and electrons with advanced linear accelerator platforms.
- Build collaborative, clinically relevant research programs.
- Collaborate across UAB’s Heersink School of Medicine and its nationally recognized academic and research infrastructure.
