About The Position

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Heersink School of Medicine, Department of Surgery is seeking faculty candidates for a tenure track or non-tenure track appointment in the Division of Surgical Oncology. The role focuses on the treatment of skin and soft tissue malignancies, specifically melanoma and sarcoma. The Division of Surgical Oncology is dedicated to providing personalized, comprehensive care for patients with a wide range of tumors, collaborating with other departments and divisions to deliver high-quality, innovative, and multidisciplinary cancer care. The position also involves contributing to the education of health professionals and advancing medical research. The ideal candidate will contribute to the institution's tripartite mission of clinical care, research, and education. The Department of Surgery is a large department with extensive research funding and a robust education program, including residencies and fellowships. UAB is a major public university with a significant economic impact and a diverse faculty and student body.

Requirements

  • Fellowship-trained surgical oncologist.
  • M.D., M.D./Ph.D., or Ph.D.
  • Outstanding leader and highly skilled, widely recognized in the field with a strong track record.
  • Substantial professional work experience in one or more areas of research, teaching and/or service.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personalized, comprehensive care for patients with a broad array of benign and malignant tumors.
  • Focus clinical practice on the treatment of skin and soft tissue malignancies including melanoma and sarcoma.
  • Collaborate with members from other divisions in the Department of Surgery, along with the Department of Radiation Oncology, Division of Hematology/Oncology, the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the Department of Genetics and the Department of Dermatology.
  • Contribute to the tripartite mission of the institution including clinical, research and education needs of the division.
  • Contribute to the education of health professionals.
  • Encourage advanced research to further medical science.
