About The Position

NextCare Urgent Care is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic, customer-friendly Medical Assistant who enjoys working in a fast-paced, team environment. The role supports patient care in the back office and may also support front-office reception, with assignments based on clinic staffing needs and business requirements. The Medical Assistant helps maintain smooth clinic operations and patient flow while treating patients with respect and dignity. Under a provider’s direct supervision and within the Medical Assistant scope of practice, the role assists with examinations, procedures, and direct patient care. Duties may include taking vital signs, administering medications as directed, drawing blood, collecting urine specimens, performing splinting and casting, conducting physicals, and providing services such as ear lavage, wound care, and oxygen administration. The position also includes patient safety reporting and compliance with clinical, laboratory, and accreditation requirements. Additional laboratory responsibilities may include moderate-complexity testing in authorized disciplines; instrument calibration and quality-control documentation; maintaining audit-ready records for COLA inspections; completing competency assessments and proficiency testing; specimen accessioning and processing; accurate reporting in the Laboratory Information System; and prompt notification of critical results to the attending Texas healthcare provider. When assigned to front-office reception, the Medical Assistant keeps patients and families informed about wait times, monitors patient flow, and processes patients for discharge, including preparing charges, collecting payments, obtaining signatures, and issuing receipts. Employees are expected to be cross-trained and may be assigned to front- or back-office functions, or both.
