About The Position

The Medical Assistant provides superior patient care and performs administrative and delegated clinical tasks in a clinic-based environment as part of a care team led by a physician and/or advanced practice provider. The position supports patient visits, maintains medical records and claims information, prepares exam rooms and instruments, manages supplies, and helps coordinate referrals, authorizations, and prescription, imaging, and laboratory requisitions.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Basic Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Microsoft Office knowledge.
BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and before providing direct patient care.

Nice To Haves

Associate’s degree.
Graduation from an accredited medical assistant/medical technologist school or program.
Prior experience in a clinic or hospital setting supporting patient care.
Current national certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
For OHI clinics, EMTs/Paramedics meet qualifications for hire.

Responsibilities

Enter, maintain, and report medical history and medical coding, and file claims using an Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Support patient visits by greeting patients, escorting them to exam rooms, and/or taking vital signs and other relevant medical information.
Sterilize and prepare medical instruments.
Disinfect, organize, and prepare patient exam rooms; support patient privacy, comfort, safety, and hygiene.
Help maintain inventory and stock supplies, instruments, and equipment for exam rooms.
Maintain inventory paperwork and review received orders for completeness.
Address and request referrals and insurance authorizations.
Pass patient information to appropriate parties for prescription, x-ray, and laboratory requisitions, including contacting pharmacies, hospitals, and labs.
