This role is 85% front desk/administrative in nature, the remaining will be clinical, supporting Bariatric Surgery. The Medical Assistant II (Spanish Bilingual) will fulfill patient care responsibilities as assigned, which may include performing venipuncture and/or EKGs, checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room, assisting patients as needed with walking, transferring and dressing, as well as collecting and processing specimens and point of care testing, preparing for exam, etc. This role will also assist physicians with various procedures, take vital signs, relay instructions to patients and or families, and answer calls providing pertinent information. Clerical responsibilities include sending and receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. Completing forms and requisitions as needed, and managing charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately. These responsibilities may be carried out using the electronic medical record (EMR) system or manually as necessary. The role also involves entering orders into the EMR system or preparing prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician for review and approval. Additional duties include inventorying, ordering or re-stocking medical supplies, providing set-up of examination room and instruments in accordance with proper sterilization techniques, and maintaining logging systems for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, sterilization process, crash cart, or others as needed. The Medical Assistant II will also check expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies, dispose of them appropriately, and maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations. This role ensures compliance with established personal protective equipment requirements and assists in the maintenance of medical charts. May schedule surgeries/procedures or work in conjunction with the Surgical Coordinator, verifying times with patients and preparing necessary documentation. May perform proficient phlebotomy duties, appointment scheduling and registration, update patient demographic and insurance information, maintain, adjust and confirm patient office schedules, check and verify insurance information, and perform and verify pre-certification for procedures. This position provides training and mentoring to Level I MA staff, directs and assigns MA schedules and work flow, and oversees the successful delivery of clinical office support to meet physician needs. Performs other duties and tasks as required.
