About The Position

ChristianaCare's Supportive & Palliative Care in Newark is seeking a professional, compassionate, dependable, detail-oriented Medical Assistant I with strong communication, integrity, and solid technical and clinical skills. The Supportive & Palliative Care department is an interdisciplinary palliative-care team which provides comfort to patients with advanced chronic and serious illness, and to their families. They seek to address our patients' fears and anxieties, lessen their pain and symptoms, and improve their quality of life. They also emphasize communication, continuity and coordination of care and help our patients with decisions about their medical care, including recommendations for medication and referrals as needed. As a Medical Assistant I, you support physicians in virtual and on-site patient care, performing essential clinical and clerical duties to ensure quality care. The ideal candidate should have a strong passion supporting populations with chronic or critical illnesses or have a related background in palliative care.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED required
  • Graduate of a recognized Medical Assistant Program or hold current Medical Assistant Certification by a national organization accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) or the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)

  • Flexibility to work late hours between 4:45pm to 5:30pm on a rotational schedule, strongly preferred
  • Strong passion supporting populations with chronic or critical illnesses or have a related background in palliative care

Responsibilities

  • Greets and supports patients virtually and in person
  • Prepares patients for visits
  • Performs basic clinical tasks (e.g., testing, injections, EKGs)
  • Assists with exams
  • Maintains exam rooms and equipment
  • Manages EMR updates, patient communications, referrals, authorizations, and scheduling
  • Handles clerical duties
  • Troubleshoots video visits
  • Supports patient portal access
