About The Position

Robson Forensic is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience in manufacturing and/or end-user product design to join their team. This role involves investigating the causes of incidents, analyzing product safety features, and providing expert testimony. You will work with respected experts on significant cases and continue your professional development. Prior forensic experience is not required, as the company prioritizes deep industry knowledge and provides training. The work involves analyzing safeguards, instructions, warnings, and foreseeable uses/misuses of products and equipment, writing scientific reports, and providing expert testimony. Potential litigation areas include manufacturing equipment, material handling, hand/power tools, plant layouts, and the safe design of industrial, commercial, and consumer products.

Requirements

  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or an E.I.T./F.E. with the required 4 years of experience and ability to sit for the P.E. exam.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, and/or other closely related field of Engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited school.
  • 10+ years of hands-on manufacturing and production experience, including design, installation, start-up, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting in a variety of manufacturing equipment and/or end-user products.
  • Expertise must include design or specification for equipment, products, or processes.
  • Familiarity of material handling systems that include forklifts, aerial lifts, cranes, and/or conveyors.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing facility operation and maintenance processes, including work cells and robotics.
  • Familiarity with utility systems (steam, water, air, gas, etc.).
  • Familiarity with safety processes/procedures used in the design of products placed into the stream of commerce and/or in the research/development of novel mechanical systems.
  • Experience with design/specification of machine guarding, warnings, safety instructions.
  • Experience using ANSI, ASME, ASTM, SAE, and other industry standards.
  • Strong technical, analytical, writing, and communication skills, and the ability to translate complex technical findings for non-engineers.
  • A clean background screen.
  • A driver’s license and the ability to drive.

  • Experience and training in the Reliability-Centered Maintenance process.
  • Failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA).
  • Root cause failure analysis.
  • Hazard analysis/risk assessments.
