About The Position

The Meat Clerk receives, rotates, wraps, and merchandises fresh and processed meats, and assists with merchandising seafood, rotisserie chickens, prepared foods, and cheeses. The role helps Members by answering questions and recommending products, and maintains cleaning and safety standards in the meat department.

The Meat Clerk supports BJ’s club policies and procedures, works collaboratively to meet daily service and merchandising standards, and helps maintain a safe, positive, clean, and well-organized club environment. Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.
• Frequently lift objects up to 30 pounds and, with assistance, lift and move heavy or awkward objects weighing more than 30 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience working with fresh and processed meats.
• Knowledge of automatic or hand wrapping machines.
• Prior experience working in a meat and/or deli department.

Responsibilities

• Answer Members’ questions about meats, poultry, and seafood, and recommend food products when appropriate.
• Weigh, package, wrap, and label cuts of meat, poultry, and seafood, including grinds.
• Assist the meat cutter with packaging freshly cut meats and seafood.
• Grind hamburger meat when needed.
• Inspect and store meat deliveries, ensuring delivered meat meets or exceeds company quality standards.
• Keep meat, seafood, prepared foods, and cheese cases fully stocked.
• Rotate meats, poultry, seafood, prepared foods, and cheeses according to expiration dates.
• Dispose of damaged or expired products according to established guidelines.
• Receive and unpack meat, poultry, seafood, prepared foods, and cheeses in the meat cooler and freezer.
• Clean and sanitize equipment, display fixtures, and meat department areas, including the cooler, freezer, and refrigerated display cases.
• Follow club policies and procedures and perform other assigned duties, including working in other departments as needed.
• Work with the team to maintain accurate signage, execute promotional plans, and uphold daily service, cleanliness, and merchandising standards.
