About The Position

Tutors at the Tutoring & Academic Support Center (TASC) are upper-division and graduate San Francisco State University students who help students develop math, science, quantitative business, computing, and academic study skills across majors. Tutors support students at all levels through one-on-one appointments and drop-in sessions, helping them work toward their academic goals. Tutors also serve as peer educators and campus leaders. Through tutoring, training, collaboration, and reflective practice, they develop transferable professional skills, including communication, teamwork, critical thinking, professionalism, equity and inclusion, leadership, and career and self-development. New tutors receive two hours of paid training each week during their first semester. Training is run by TASC faculty on Wednesday afternoons in a two-hour block between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m.; TASC will work to find a time when all new tutors are available. Mandatory training begins the first week of classes. All tutors attend an all-staff workshop on the Friday before the semester starts, and new tutors begin working with students within the first month after required training. Both work-study and non-work-study positions are available. The appointment runs from January 2027, beginning the week before the first day of classes, through May 2027, ending during finals week. Tutoring takes place on campus and online. Tutors must be available to work a minimum of 8–12 hours per week and no more than 20 hours per week, including the two hours of weekly training. Specific work hours depend on tutor availability and scheduling needs. Applications are reviewed and interviews scheduled on a rolling basis; applications may close early if positions are filled. New tutors begin at the start of the semester following their interview, not mid-semester.
