About The Position

Tutors at San Francisco State University’s Tutoring and Academic Support Center (TASC) are SFSU students who support peers in developing reading, writing, oral communication, and academic study skills across majors. They provide assistance through scheduled one-on-one appointments and drop-in sessions, both in person and online. As peer educators and campus leaders, tutors build professional competencies through tutoring, training, collaboration, and reflective practice. The position includes paid, mandatory training: a weekly Friday session from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. facilitated by TASC faculty, a mandatory all-staff workshop on the Friday before the semester begins, and asynchronous training on additional topics. Training begins in the first week of classes, and new tutors begin tutoring in week three. The role is expected to start in January 2027, the week before classes begin, and continue through May 2027 finals week. Tutors must work at least 8 hours per week and no more than 20 hours per week; new tutors usually start at 8–10 hours per week during their first semester. The position may extend into the following semester after a positive evaluation.
