About The Position

The Material Handling Instructor presents instruction in a designated subject area in a regular classroom setting. The role focuses on motivating students, maintaining a disciplined and supportive learning environment, and helping students develop appropriate behavior and work and study habits. The instructor prepares and maintains the classroom, equipment, supplies, and student records, and participates in employer networking and placement outreach. This is a full-time, onsite position in San Jose, with a Monday-to-Friday schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The stated salary is $70,304.00. The program serves young adults ages 16–24 and is administered by the U.S. Department of Labor.

Requirements

State-certified, licensed, or accredited by a professional trade organization; if not state-certified, must have practical experience in the subject or trade area.
Ability to transfer topical knowledge to meet specific learning objectives.
Ability to read, comprehend, interpret, communicate, and execute instructions or directives fluently in English.
Knowledge of methods for instilling appropriate behavior and work and study habits in adolescent students.
Knowledge of housekeeping techniques and management.

Responsibilities

Promote a positive and desirable classroom atmosphere to maximize student motivation.
Maintain classroom discipline to support learning.
Establish strong rapport with students.
Use available curriculum resources.
Prepare the classroom adequately.
Maintain student personnel folders.
Record and forward daily attendance to the Student Records area.
Assist with completing necessary Job Corps forms.
Oversee the building and ensure security measures are taken, including maintenance of equipment and supplies.
Maintain classroom cleanliness.
Ensure class attendance records are complete and accurate.
Conduct and participate in monthly employer networking and placement outreach.
Perform other duties as assigned.
