About The Position

To transfer product from inbound trucks to storage areas. This role involves storing product by product and lot number using an industrial forklift or hand lift, working from written or verbal instructions. The Material Handler operates a forklift to pick up, move, place, and position materials or products as required. They also perform routine servicing of equipment such as fueling, checking fluid levels and tires, and notify the maintenance department of any major issues or repairs. Additionally, the role requires preparing inventory reports and paperwork to monitor and account for inventory by lot and product number, handling ingredients safely and according to company quality standards, and communicating with shift managers to schedule deliveries and pick-ups. The Material Handler participates as a member of the Team, contributing to ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies, and coordinating work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members. They attend appropriate team meetings and foster strong cohesiveness regarding major issues. The position also requires familiarity with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g., quality, security, office environment, company policies) and understanding the responsibility to maintain this familiarity and the role's support of these systems, including considering the impact of individual actions and communicating concerns and improvement ideas. The role may perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.

Requirements

Must be able to work on feet for the entire shift.
Must be able to move or lift product weighing up to 75 pounds from floor to shoulder height (Dry Pet - up to 55 pounds).
Requires eye protection, ear protection, and steel toed shoes.
Basic computer skills.
Must be able to pass and maintain company-issued forklift license/certification.
Communication skills & decision quality - Must have the ability to make good decisions and communicate effectively with others and leadership team.
Ability to troubleshoot issues.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of production scheduling is a plus.
Preference for warehouse setting handling ingredients.
