About The Position

The Material Handler is responsible for transporting ingredients, packaging materials, and finished products between various areas to maintain workflow and keep up with production pace. This role involves staging materials for packaging lines, removing completed product, loading and unloading trucks, and ensuring compliance with food safety protocols. The Material Handler will also perform regular checks on materials, document movements using inventory management systems, and maintain cleanliness according to GMPs and HACCP requirements. Collaboration with other departments and reporting of any issues are key aspects of this position, along with assisting in inventory counts and operating material handling equipment safely.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Forklift certification (or ability to obtain it) required.
  • Understanding of GMP, HACCP, and basic food safety principles.
  • Ability to read and understand work orders, labels, and inventory documents.
  • Comfortable working in cold, wet, or temperature-controlled environments.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks throughout shift.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to hygiene and safety.
  • Team-oriented with good communication and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in food manufacturing or food packaging preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Transport ingredients, packaging materials (boxes, film, labels, etc.), and finished products between storage, production, assembly, and packaging areas to maintain workflow and keep up with the pace of production.
  • Accurately stage materials for packaging lines according to daily production schedules and product specs.
  • Remove completed product from packaging lines, wrap, label and place in designated storage or staging areas for shipping.
  • Load and unload trucks while ensuring compliance with food safety and handling protocols.
  • Perform regular checks to ensure all materials are labeled, stored, and rotated (FIFO) correctly.
  • Document material movements using inventory management systems, handheld scanners, standard operating procedures, and bill of materials (BOM) to ensure accurate tracking and traceability.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and HACCP requirements.
  • Conduct basic inspections of packaging materials and product components for signs of contamination or damage.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Warehouse, and Customer Service departments as needed to ensure timely material availability, resolve discrepancies, and support smooth production and order fulfillment processes.
  • Report any issues related to inventory, materials, or equipment to supervisors promptly.
  • Assist in cycle counts and physical inventories as needed.
  • Operate material handling equipment (e.g., forklift, pallet jack) safely and efficiently.
