The Marketing Manager is responsible for developing and leading Gardenland Co‑op’s marketing, brand, and community engagement strategy across all business units. This role provides strategic direction, manages day‑to‑day marketing operations, and leads the execution of initiatives that strengthen the Co‑op brand, drive member engagement, and support business growth. The Marketing Manager oversees marketing communications, promotions, events, sponsorships, and community relations while ensuring all activities reflect Gardenland Co‑op’s mission, values, and cooperative identity. In addition, this role leads, mentors, and supports marketing staff and serves as the primary marketing liaison with the community and other stakeholders. Success in this role requires a strategic, community‑focused leader who combines creativity with strong business judgment, thrives in a fast‑paced environment, and builds strong internal and external relationships.

  • Creative, results‑driven, and capable of managing multiple priorities effectively.
  • Technologically savvy and quick to adapt to new tools and platforms.
  • Strong business acumen with sound day‑to‑day decision‑making.
  • Can thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
  • Post‑secondary education in Marketing, Communications, or a related field, along with five or more years of progressive marketing experience, including demonstrated leadership or management responsibilities.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Ability to work on‑site (no remote work available) and travel between Co‑op locations and community venues as needed.
  • Full‑time availability (40 hours/week) with flexibility for some evenings and weekends to support events.

Responsibilities

  • Champion and protect the Gardenland Co‑op brand by ensuring consistent alignment with the Co‑op’s vision, mission, and values across all touchpoints.
  • Act as a brand and cooperative ambassador with a strong understanding of the Cooperative Retailing System and the cooperative business model.
  • Develop and oversee community engagement strategies that strengthen brand presence and contribute positively to the communities Gardenland Co‑op serves.
  • Develop and execute annual marketing and communications plans aligned with organizational goals and budgets.
  • Lead the creation, approval, and quality control of all marketing materials, digital content, advertising, and social media.
  • Oversee promotional planning, signage, print, and digital campaigns across business lines.
  • Monitor trends, analyze results, and adjust strategies to maximize impact and return on investment.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align marketing programs, campaigns, and best practices across the Cooperative Retailing System.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship to the Marketing Coordinator and any additional marketing staff.
  • Prioritize workloads, manage timelines, and ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Oversee marketing budgets, vendor relationships, and contracts.
  • Ensure accurate record‑keeping and reporting for marketing initiatives.
  • Provide strategic oversight and direction for Gardenland Co‑op’s participation in community events, sponsorships, and member relations activities.
  • Approve and manage donation and sponsorship requests in alignment with Co‑op values and community strategy.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and other departments to plan and deliver internal events such as staff meals, conferences, picnics, and banquets.
  • Build and maintain relationships with media, event organizers, suppliers, and community partners.
  • Support and guide volunteer coordination efforts related to community events and initiatives, ensuring clear communication and smooth execution.
