About The Position

The Marketing Manager (MM) is expected to work directly with the editorial team to own and streamline both daily and long term marketing functions within the publishing house. This includes but is not limited to managing digital platforms, working independently to develop PR strategy for individual titles, authors, and EPB as a publisher, and managing one intern. Evening Post Books is the award-winning book publishing division of Evening Post Publishing, proud owners of The Post and Courier. Based in Charleston, South Carolina, they specialize in books written by authors hailing from and writing about the greater South, including high-quality fiction, nonfiction, poetry, cookbooks, biographies, memoirs, history, and other specialty publications. Like a true port city, they strive to share these Southern voices with the world.

Requirements

  • A valid SC Driver's License and reliable vehicle are required.
  • Be hyper-organized, with a keen eye for task organization, prioritization, and execution.
  • Have a marketer's mindset with the ability to tailor pitches to appeal to a diverse range of media outlets.
  • Possess the ability to create, evolve, and adhere to branding and aesthetics.
  • Have a deep understanding of social media and web and the tools each of them offer to drive business.
  • Have experience working and succeeding in a hybrid (in office Mon-Thu, remote Fri) environment.
  • Operate as a creative thinker with a 'no project too big or too small' mindset.
  • Have experience with the Microsoft Suite and other file management platforms, namely Outlook, calendar, SharePoint, and Dropbox.
  • Have knowledge of the South, the Carolina Lowcountry, and its cultural and media landscape.
  • Be comfortable working and managing tasks/timelines independently and as part of a team in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Possess the ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive matters.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the life cycle of marketing campaigns from conception to execution.
  • Head social media channels by developing branded content and regularly posting, interacting with followers, and creating cohesive branding and aesthetics across public platforms.
  • Write press releases for new titles and tailor pitches to media and other social outlets.
  • Allocate the marketing budget in unique ways that drive growth and our mission.
  • Conceptualize relevant local brand partnerships to spotlight our titles.
  • Seek, secure, and execute marketing packages for our contract title clients.
  • Work with the assistant editor to regularly partner and promote bookstores while keeping them abreast about inventory discounts, sales, and book availability.
  • Solicit book reviews and fulfill review copy shipments in conjunction with the assistant editors record keeping processes.
  • Connect with authors to help promote engagements.
  • Head development of monthly and specialty newsletters through Constant Contact.
  • Maintain communication and professional relationships with authors past and present.
  • Orchestrate and execute book signings and launches with local partners.
  • Keep marketing assets for publisher and individual titles organized.
  • Hire, manage, and mentor seasonal marketing interns on a college semester basis.
  • Adhere to all EPP safety policies and practices.
