About The Position

The Market Grille Clerk serves fresh, made-to-order food and creates a welcoming experience for customers. The role involves taking and fulfilling orders, handling and preparing food safely, maintaining product availability and freshness, and keeping the work area clean and sanitary. Clerks operate the department register, receive and check in product, and work with coworkers to provide quality service in a busy store kitchen environment. Training is provided.

Requirements

Ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions and work through tasks with a few concrete variables.
Ability to perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately.
Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team to deliver a good customer experience.
Six months or less of similar or related work experience.

Prior food service experience.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, friendly customer service and help make each visit positive.
Take customer orders at the Market Grille counter and answer the telephone, including taking product orders.
Review daily orders, anticipate product needs, and prepare and replenish products.
Pull products from coolers or freezers for cooking and ensure an adequate food supply is ready.
Handle food safely and monitor food for freshness and appearance.
Maintain a clean, sanitary work area throughout the shift.
Check in products, put them away, and review invoices as needed.
Operate the department register, receive payments, and make change where applicable.
Remove trash promptly and wash dishes as necessary.
Price and order products and deliver orders as needed.
Work with coworkers as a team to support customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as assigned.
Follow personal hygiene and dress standards, Hy-Vee policies, and store guidelines.
Report to work as scheduled and on time.
