About The Position

Market Grille Clerks prepare and serve fresh, made-to-order food while creating a warm, welcoming experience for customers. They take orders, handle food safely, maintain product supplies and freshness, and help keep the department operating smoothly. The role is suited to someone who enjoys food service and a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

The position is performed in a busy store kitchen. Training is provided. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.

Requirements

• Ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions and complete tasks involving a few concrete variables.
• Ability to perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience.
• Ability to meet applicable physical demands, including frequent standing and walking and repetitive reaching and bending.

Nice To Haves

• Prior food service experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service, greet customers, and help make each visit positive.
• Take customer orders at the Market Grille counter and answer the telephone promptly, including taking product orders.
• Review daily orders, anticipate product needs, and prepare or replenish products as needed.
• Retrieve products from coolers or freezers for cooking and ensure adequate food supplies are available.
• Handle food safely and monitor food freshness and appearance.
• Maintain a clean and sanitary work area.
• Check in products, put products away, and review invoices as needed.
• Operate the department register, receive payments, and make change where applicable.
• Remove trash promptly and wash dishes as needed.
• Price and order products and deliver orders as needed.
• Work with co-workers to support customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
• Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as assigned.
• Follow personal hygiene and dress standards, Hy-Vee policies, and store guidelines.
• Report to work as scheduled and on time.
