About The Position

The Market Grille Clerk serves made-to-order food and provides a warm, welcoming customer experience at the Market Grille counter. The role involves taking orders, handling and preparing food safely, maintaining product availability and freshness, and keeping the work area clean and sanitary. Clerks work collaboratively to support customer satisfaction and may assist in other store areas or special projects as assigned. Training is provided. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.

Requirements

Ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions and complete tasks involving a few concrete variables.
Ability to perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately.
Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Six months or less of similar or related work experience.
Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas.
Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning and sanitation duties.
Where applicable, safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation.
Where applicable, operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards.

Nice To Haves

Prior food service experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, friendly customer service and help make each visit positive.
Take customer orders at the Market Grille counter and answer the telephone promptly, including taking product orders.
Review daily orders, anticipate product needs, and prepare and replenish products as necessary.
Retrieve products from coolers or freezers for cooking and ensure an adequate food supply is available.
Handle food safely and monitor food freshness and appearance.
Maintain a clean, sanitary work area; remove trash and wash dishes as needed.
Check in and store products, and review invoices as needed.
Operate the department register, receive payment, and make change where applicable.
Price and order products and deliver orders as needed.
Work as part of a team to support customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as assigned.
Follow personal hygiene and dress standards, Hy-Vee policies, and store guidelines.
Report to work as scheduled and on time.
