About The Position
Market Grille Clerks serve fresh, made-to-order food and create a warm, welcoming experience for customers. They keep the department running smoothly by managing orders, handling food safely, and working with the team to maintain quality and service. The role suits people who enjoy working with food and serving customers in a fast-paced environment. The position includes customer service and order-taking at the counter and by telephone; preparing and replenishing products; checking food freshness and maintaining safe food handling; keeping the work area clean and sanitary; receiving and putting away product; operating the register; and assisting with other store needs as assigned. Training is provided. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
Requirements
- Follow detailed written or verbal instructions and work through tasks with a few concrete variables.
- Perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately.
- Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing.
- Work effectively as part of a team to deliver a great customer experience.
- Six months or less of similar or related work experience.

- Prior food service experience.
Responsibilities
- Provide prompt, friendly customer service, greet customers, learn their names, and help make each visit positive.
- Take orders at the Market Grille counter and answer the telephone promptly, including taking product orders.
- Review daily orders, anticipate product needs, and prepare and replenish products as necessary.
- Pull products from coolers or freezers for cooking and ensure adequate food supplies are ready.
- Handle food safely and regularly review food status and appearance for freshness.
- Maintain a clean, sanitary work area throughout the shift.
- Check in products, put them away, and review invoices as needed.
- Operate the department register, receive payment, and make change where applicable.
- Remove trash promptly and wash dishes as necessary.
- Price and order products and deliver orders as needed.
- Work with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
- Assist in other store areas as needed and take on special projects as assigned.
- Follow personal hygiene and dress standards, Hy-Vee policies, and store guidelines.
- Report to work as scheduled and on time.
