About The Position

The Market Grille Clerk prepares and serves fresh, made-to-order food while creating a warm, welcoming customer experience. The role supports the smooth operation of the Market Grille by taking orders, preparing and replenishing products, handling food safely, maintaining cleanliness, and working collaboratively to deliver quality service. The position is performed in a busy store kitchen environment, and training is provided.

Requirements

• Ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions and complete tasks involving a few concrete variables.
• Ability to perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience.

• Prior food service experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service and help make each visit positive.
• Take customer orders at the Market Grille counter and answer the telephone promptly, including taking product orders.
• Review daily orders, anticipate product needs, and prepare and replenish products as necessary.
• Pull products from coolers or freezers for cooking and ensure adequate food supplies are available.
• Handle food safely and monitor food freshness and appearance.
• Maintain a clean and sanitary work area.
• Check in products, put them away, and review invoices as needed.
• Operate the department register, receive payment, and make change where applicable.
• Remove trash promptly and wash dishes as necessary.
• Price and order products and deliver orders as needed.
• Work with co-workers as a team to support customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
• Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as assigned.
• Follow personal hygiene and dress standards, Hy-Vee policies, and store guidelines.
• Report to work as scheduled and on time.
