About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy for a Marker-Grader position for the COSC 1P02 Introduction to Computer Science course at Brock University. The position is part of the CUPE4207-1 Employee Group. Marker-Grader positions are paid according to the qualifications the employee holds, with rates effective September 1, 2026, ranging from $19.00/hour for First Year Complete to $36.00/hour for Master’s Degree Complete. The role involves marking assignments, term projects, case reports, midterms, progress exams, and/or final exams, and providing written feedback to students. The marker-grader may also be expected to invigilate mid-terms and examinations or enter grades into databases. Requirements

  • Sound knowledge of any software (such as IntelliJ) directly or indirectly used within COSC 1P02 as outlined in the course description within the Brock University Undergraduate calendar and/or course outlines supplied by the instructor.
  • Completed COSC 1P03 and COSC 2P03 (or equivalents).
  • Achieved a grade of 75% or higher in COSC 1P02, COSC 1P03 and COSC 2P03 (or equivalents).
  • Excellent Java skills.
  • Familiarity with Brock’s BasicIO packages.
  • Previous successful teaching/marking experience in computer science.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Available during normal office hours for group meetings.
  • High level of interpersonal skills and effective verbal communication skills.
  • Academic integrity and professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Mark assignments, term projects, case reports, midterms, progress exams, and/or final exams.
  • Provide written feedback to students that clearly identifies the basis of the grade assigned, whether due to substantive content, or to written communications, including spelling, punctuation, grammar, and overall structure and organization of the submission.
  • Invigilate mid-terms and examinations for this course, at the request of the course instructor.
  • Enter grades into databases, at the request of the course instructor.
