About The Position

Family Farm and Home is a family-owned and operated retail company headquartered in Michigan, with 71 stores across Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. The company sells products in departments including tools, hardware, automotive, pet supplies, clothing and footwear, farm supplies, animal feed, bird food, lawn and garden, and alternative heating. The Store Manager exemplifies and promotes the company’s culture and family values while leading the store team and delivering superior customer service. The role oversees merchandising, shrink control, store operations, inventory, expenses, human resources, and operating costs, with full profit and loss accountability for an individual store. The manager uses knowledge of the local market, customers, seasonal opportunities, and competitors to help achieve budgeted goals and drive sales and profits. The position requires managing time and priorities, maintaining a safe and clean store, and working a flexible schedule that includes weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Requirements

Demonstrated excellent leadership and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage with limited supervision.
Good oral and written communication skills for interacting with customers, vendors, and associates.
Comfort with hiring and firing team members.
Understanding of aggressive customer service and a team-oriented approach.
Good management and organizational skills.
Ability to understand and interpret statistical or numerical data and use it to assess and coordinate merchandising and store operations.
Detail-oriented and able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to stand for extended periods.
Ability to move and handle boxes of merchandise and fixtures throughout the store.
Ability to climb ladders, reach, bend, twist, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Responsibilities

Promote the Family Farm and Home mission statement, family values, and an aggressive sales culture focused on superior customer service.
Hire, coach, counsel, discipline, and, when necessary, fire team members; plan, monitor, and evaluate their work.
Maintain professionalism and positive store morale.
Ensure store responsibilities are executed and store operations are completed through key associates and/or personal actions.
Schedule and assign team members and follow up on work results.
Provide feedback to buyers, district managers, and other company officials.
Manage the store’s profit and loss and contribute to annual budget preparation; schedule expenditures, analyze variances, and initiate corrective actions.
Build rapport with current and potential customers to identify their requirements.
Establish relationships with and support local community groups consistent with company values.
Ensure merchandise and services are available by approving contracts and maintaining inventories.
Manage and protect inventory and company assets against theft and damage in accordance with company policy.
Ensure merchandise is received, stored, and merchandised in all departments according to operational and safety procedures.
Comply with legal requirements and maintain a safe and clean store environment for employees and customers.
Review operating and financial statements and departmental sales records to help determine marketing strategy changes.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge through workshops, professional publications, and personal networks.
Initiate, coordinate, and enforce operational and personnel policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned by a supervisor or company official.
