About The Position

The Manager in Training assists the Store Manager with the store’s overall operations and administrative duties. The role requires knowledge of each product area or department and supports determining the methods and approaches needed to achieve store goals and initiatives. The Manager in Training upholds company policies, procedures, and visual standards, promotes sales and promotions, and serves as an ambassador of Hibbett | City Gear by creating a distinctive customer experience and helping acquire and retain customers. The position emphasizes outstanding customer service and merchandise promotion. In the Store Manager’s absence, the Manager in Training assumes supervisory control of the entire store and is trained in the Store Manager’s responsibilities. The role includes supporting store asset control, sales and merchandising activities, inventory awareness, employee direction, customer service, and administrative work. When supervising employees, the Manager in Training may interview and train employees, plan and assign work, direct work, and resolve problems in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager on action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and other departmental and store responsibilities.
Assume responsibility for the entire store when the Store Manager is absent.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments as needed.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability across departments.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Ensure quality customer service is maintained, including assisting customers as they enter and helping multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell Hibbett | City Gear services and merchandise.
Perform general administrative duties and train in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards in the operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals, as well as company memos.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring internal control procedures are accurate and effective, and report potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Supervise employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training employees, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
