About The Position

The Manager in Training is a full-time, hourly position that reports to the Store Manager. The role includes an eight-week training program and prepares the employee to advance to Store Manager within the designated market area. The Manager in Training learns to hire, train, and manage employees and performs the Store Manager’s duties in their absence. The position supports store administration, customer service, inventory and cash control, sales and promotional execution, employee training, store presentation, and routine maintenance. It requires compliance with company policies and procedures and responsibility for protecting company funds, merchandise, equipment, and other assets.

Responsibilities

Complete the eight-week training program and learn the duties required to run a store.
Develop the skills needed to hire, train, and manage employees, and advance toward a Store Manager position.
Perform Store Manager duties in the Store Manager’s absence and perform responsibilities assigned to Assistant Managers and Sales/Food Service Associates.
Monitor cash, credit card, check-cashing, banking, payroll, and other procedures to protect company funds and assets.
Complete daily and monthly paperwork and maintain store, shift, sales, payroll, personnel, computer, and audit records.
Submit accurate employee documentation to Human Resources and submit payroll every Monday morning.
Follow safety procedures, including when handling cleaning products and hazardous materials and when exposed to gasoline fumes.
Provide enthusiastic customer service, ensure staff do the same, and resolve customer complaints promptly and effectively.
Monitor inventory, merchandise, supplies, waste, pricing, scanning, vendor check-in, money orders, lottery, employee purchases, and shift-change procedures.
Maintain daily audit practices within company guidelines, with the goal of less than 1% shrink and increased sales and profit.
Assist the Store Manager with store budgets and monitor competitive marketing conditions and trends; report relevant information to the District Manager.
Determine stock levels and plan vendor purchases based on the merchandising and promotional calendar, seasonality, and profit targets.
Maintain planograms and execute promotional requirements.
Train new employees, periodically evaluate employee performance, and communicate procedures professionally and positively, using progressive counseling when needed.
Meet performance standards for store computers, POS machines, cash registers, equipment, and other systems.
Maintain food-service presentation, appearance, operations, and sanitary conditions, and keep the store aligned with company standards for cleanliness, product quality, and customer service.
Perform routine preventive maintenance and promptly report major equipment problems to the Store Manager, District Manager, Regional Manager, and FIXIT.
Remain stationary for extended periods and perform store cleaning and stocking tasks, including cleaning shelves, coolers, floors, windows, parking areas, grounds, gas pumps, equipment, food-service areas, restrooms, and shower stalls.
Work in a cooler at 30 degrees for up to 30 minutes at a time, move products and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, shovel snow when needed, and use and transport a 25-pound fire extinguisher in response to a fire.
Comply with company policies and procedures in provided handbooks and manuals.
