Requirements

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Engineering, or another relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in areas such as Corporate Development, Strategy, Consulting, Business Planning, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Exposure to business development activities, including mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, partnerships, or similar transactions.
  • Sound financial and commercial acumen, including experience with financial modelling, valuation, and commercial analysis relevant to the mining and/or natural resources industries.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders, in person and through virtual channels.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain effective working relationships internally and externally, supporting collaboration across functions and contributing to discussions that inform strategic decision‑making at senior levels.
  • Strong collaborative approach, demonstrating openness, transparency, emotional intelligence, and the ability to build trust within diverse, cross‑functional teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in investment banking would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the initial evaluation of select target opportunities, including coordinating with technical experts and relevant internal stakeholders during evaluation, due diligence, and financial analysis activities.
  • Monitoring industry and competitive trends and contributing to forecasting, scenario analysis, and strategic assessments by preparing analytical inputs, identifying potential risks and opportunities, and proposing options for consideration.
  • Participating in transaction negotiations, providing analytical and strategic support to the leadership team during complex discussions and multi‑party negotiations.
  • Collaborating with the Product Group leadership team to support alignment on proposed transaction terms.
  • Analyzing and supporting consultations with internal stakeholders on potential opportunities such as acquisitions, internal projects, joint ventures, farm‑outs, and divestitures.
  • Ensuring activities align with Rio Tinto’s ethics, compliance standards, and global policies, and supporting the consistent application of business development governance processes.
