About The Position

As a Loss Prevention Specialist, you will identify merchandise, financial, and property losses from known or suspected internal or external sources using surveillance, procedures, and camera systems. You will investigate employee or customer activities that may involve suspicious or inappropriate behavior to prevent losses, and maintain and train personnel on physical security systems and locks. The role is based at a Piggly Wiggly store and requires travel.

Requirements

Two to five years of experience in retail operations with successful participation and training in loss prevention, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of supermarket layouts and general operations, and of security policies and procedures.
Ability to define and solve practical problems, collect and track data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and handle varied concrete situations in difficult circumstances.
Ability to hear, speak, and understand spoken language and communicate effectively with store owners and managers, employees, coworkers, customers, and clients.
Ability to read, write, analyze, interpret, and understand English sufficiently to read, understand, or present necessary communications.
Ability to sit, stand, handle, finger, and feel objects, tools, or controls; frequently walk, talk, hear, and reach; and occasionally crouch or kneel.
Ability to occasionally exert or lift up to 75 pounds and frequently exert or lift moderate amounts of weight.
Close vision and ability to adjust focus, with sufficient visual acuity to check and verify invoices and other written documents.
Sufficient physical mobility or agility to respond quickly to fires or other emergencies, and dexterity to disassemble and clean power equipment if necessary.
Ability to pass company-directed training programs or modules and obtain other necessary certifications.
Associate degree in General Studies.

Responsibilities

Apprehend people involved in theft or destruction of store property through store patrols, surveillance, and direct observation.
Assist with the prosecution of people involved in theft, destruction of company property, or inappropriate workplace behavior.
Communicate with store owners, managers, upper management, and law enforcement through statements, forms, emails, telephone, and in-person communications.
Train company members, retail customers, store personnel, and company personnel on camera and alarm systems, loss prevention activities, and applicable loss prevention systems and programs.
Maintain documentation and reports on security-related incidents or investigations.
Maintain the proper functioning of physical security systems.
Testify in civil or criminal court proceedings as necessary.
Coordinate with risk management, human resources, or upper management to assist with fact-finding investigations.
Identify and report security and safety concerns within the shopping environment.
Recommend methods, systems, or processes to reduce risk exposure.
Install and repair camera systems as needed.
