About The Position

The Environmental Charter School is seeking a music teacher who can commit to the entire assignment period (November 2026-April 2027). Successful candidates must be progressive minded and embody a can-do spirit and work ethic. For best consideration, candidates should have a degree or experience in education, a strong work ethic, and a “whatever it takes” attitude. The ECS Music Teacher has strong teaching abilities, an understanding of pedagogy and instructional practices in music education, and a strong interest in environmental studies. The ECS Music teacher works collaboratively within a team of educators and specialists who focus on integration of authentic, project based learning experiences within the specialty areas. Teachers make deep connections with students over the course of their educational program. The ECS Music teacher works closely with teaching colleagues and Principal. Candidates should be energetic and progressive minded, with a willingness to work collaboratively with all educators at the campus.

Requirements

  • Degree or experience in education

  • Ability to teach instrumental music from beginner to advanced
  • Previous teaching experience
  • Clearances current within one year of hire date will be required. This includes Arrest & Conviction Disclosure, Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151), Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Clearance (Act 114), FBI Criminal Background Check. Commonwealth of PA Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release (Act 168) and Mandated Reporter Training also will be required.

Responsibilities

  • Determine each student’s learning level and select appropriate music, books and instructional aids to enhance learning
  • Teach skills in music comprehension/appreciation, harmony, and explorations in instrumental music
  • Plan all lessons in accordance with curriculum guidelines and update curriculum as needed
  • Provide musical performances for assemblies, open houses, concerts, etc.
  • Maintain student records and evaluate each student’s musical growth, performance, and musical understanding
  • Work between two buildings to support consistent music instruction for students in fourth grade through eighth grade (this position requires traveling between buildings daily)
  • Create a positive, achievement-oriented, and structured learning environment in which all students can experience success
  • Ensure that all students are fully and consistently engaged during class time
  • Implement the school-wide behavior management policies and school bullying prevention program within classrooms and throughout the school
  • Structure compelling, standards-based lessons that engage students with instrumental music, and inspire a connection to the arts
  • Regularly evaluate student progress using a variety of assessment methods including standardized assessments, teacher-designed tests, and samples of student work
