About The Position

This contract, on-site position offers an excellent opportunity for an Associate-level physician to provide critical trauma care in a dynamic medical practice environment. As a Locum Trauma Surgeon, you will deliver high-quality surgical care to patients with traumatic injuries, working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals. Your expertise will be essential in managing emergency surgical cases, performing operative procedures, and ensuring optimal patient outcomes in a fast-paced clinical setting. Duties include supporting trauma, ICU, and emergency general surgery.

Requirements

  • MD (Medical Doctor) or DO (Osteopathic Doctor) degree from an accredited institution
  • Board certification or eligibility in General Surgery or Trauma Surgery
  • Valid medical license to practice in the state of Charleston
  • Associate-level experience in trauma or acute care surgery
  • Strong clinical skills in emergency surgical procedures
  • Excellent decision-making and critical thinking abilities
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations
  • Commitment to patient safety and quality care
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules including nights and weekends
  • Current ACLS and ATLS certifications
  • Experience with electronic medical records systems
  • BLS required

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive trauma surgical care to patients with acute injuries
  • Perform emergency surgical procedures and operative interventions
  • Evaluate and manage patients in the emergency department and trauma bay
  • Collaborate with emergency medicine physicians, nurses, and specialists
  • Conduct rounds and monitor post-operative patient recovery
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation and records
  • Participate in trauma team activations and rapid response protocols
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests and imaging studies
  • Develop and implement patient treatment plans
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families regarding care
  • Adhere to hospital policies, safety protocols, and quality standards
  • Stay current with advances in trauma surgery and emergency medicine
