About The Position

This is a Seasonal position, which will last approximately six (6) months from the date of hire. The position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union. Employees who are initially hired for any Seasonal position shall be placed at Step 3, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps. Candidates must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Three (3) years of experience in one or more of the following fields: drafting, surveying, inspection, materials testing, plan review, permitting, computerized mapping, computer assisted design (CAD), traffic signal control, code enforcement, and/or a related field, and at least one (1) year of which must have been at the Engineering Technician I level with the Municipality or the equivalent elsewhere.
  • OR Associate's degree in Engineering, Drafting, Computer Assisted Design (CAD), or a discipline specific to the department, and at least one (1) year of which must have been at the Engineering Technician I level with the Municipality or the equivalent elsewhere.
  • Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
  • Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License and satisfactory Driving Record at time of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA candidates.
  • Veterans who wish to be considered for interview preference must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs, recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge.
  • Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference must attach proof of current service to the application.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Summer Season field utility locates to ensure identification of subsurface drainage systems owned and maintained by the MOA within the Anchorage Roads and Drainage Service Area (ARD SA).
  • Communicate those results back to the various appropriate agencies and/or departments.
  • Perform various other administrative functions in support of Street Maintenance Operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
