About The Position

The Engineering Technician I/II is the primary source of information regarding environmental monitoring duties for the department as well as providing assistance to landfill operations. The Engineering Technician I/II is responsible for collecting and maintaining field monitoring records as well as maintaining monitoring devices in working order. This position will monitor operating performance of landfill gas systems, groundwater monitoring pumps, leachate, surface water and landfill gas for analysis consistent with permit requirements. Maintain records consistent with permit requirements for reporting to regulatory agencies. Perform refuse inspections and interact with customers regarding waste acceptance policies and will provide support to the Engineering Department for maintaining special waste acceptance programs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and successful completion of at least three (3) courses in any combination of geometry, drafting, surveying (Geomatics) or Right of Way (ROW)
  • OR High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and 18 months experience in one or more of the following fields: drafting, surveying, inspection, materials testing, plan review, permitting, computerized mapping, computer assisted design (CAD), traffic signal control, code enforcement, customer service representative, and/or a related field.
  • Must possess a valid State of Alaska Driver's License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
  • OSHA 29 CFR 1910 40 hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) Waste Screening at Municipal Solid Waste Management Facilities Inspector Certification within six (6) months of hire.
