The Engineering Technician III will operate under limited professional engineering supervision to perform paraprofessional work under any branch of engineering. Manage, administer, direct, and inspect many aspects of complex projects and services for Anchorage Water and Wastewater Utility. Review, analyze, recommend, respond, and implement recommendations in an in-depth manner for difficult questions about processes, construction techniques, specialized materials, contract provisions and other technical items. Typical duties include technical reporting, specification, and contract writing to support the AWWU capital program. Additionally, drafting, design review and design utilizing knowledge and training with engineering industry standards such as the AWWU Design and Construction Practices Manual (DCPM), Municipality of Anchorage Standard Specifications (MASS), State of Alaska Highway Design, geotechnical standards, National Association of Corrosion Engineers, the Association of Materials Protection and Performance and others. This position is required to travel to field locations and perform work in inclement weather conditions. Work outside of the normal workday or work week and/or temporary schedule changes are required as needed. This position includes duties associated with emergency responses to natural and man-made disasters to help maintain services. Perform other duties as assigned. Participate in major emergencies or disasters as outlined in AWWU’s disaster plan matrix, which defines each employee’s potential duties and responsibilities. This may include 12-hour work shifts, which may continue for 72 hours or more, starting at any time an event might occur, 7 days a week, 24 hours per day.
