About The Position

KCCI, the CBS affiliate in Des Moines, is hiring a Local News Producer to create meaningful and memorable newscasts. The producer should bring creative vision, make decisions, communicate plans, win major stories, lead breaking-news coverage, and present important weather information. The position requires speed, collaboration with newsroom professionals, and a strong commitment to accuracy. The producer reports to the News Director. In-person attendance is required.

Requirements

Professional or college producing experience.
Experience working in a newsroom.
Strong writing and copy-editing skills.
Ability to coordinate several crews and responsibilities simultaneously.
Experience summarizing information into easy-to-understand components.
Creative presentation style and ability to showcase available resources and elements.
Highest journalistic integrity and ethical standards.
Must be available to work holidays, nights, weekends, and overnights, and maintain a flexible schedule for breaking news.
In-person attendance is required.

Responsibilities

Select, research, and write content for live newscasts, making them an engaging experience for viewers.
Coordinate with digital and assignment desk teams to ensure consistent coverage across broadcast and online platforms.
Work with and guide reporters in story production.
Coordinate creative vision with anchors, reporters, meteorologists, photographers, editors, and production staff.
Booth assigned newscasts and breaking-news and weather events.
Manage live timing of newscasts.
