Requirements

  • Understanding the unique challenges and strengths of rural communities.
  • Ability to meet people where they are and offer real support that makes a difference.
  • Experience leading workshops or training sessions for adults, whether face-to-face or remotely over platforms like Zoom or MS Teams.
  • Confidence explaining rules, policies, or regulations clearly, whether talking to community members, coworkers, or government folks.
  • Ability to get your point across, written or spoken.
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software (like QuickBooks or Quicken).
  • Ability to interpret budgets or financial statements without breaking a sweat, especially in a government or nonprofit setting.
  • Knowledge of planning, coordination, and execution of business functions, resource allocation, and production.
  • Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
  • Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

  • Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or experience in accounting, budget administration, financial services, social services, public administration, legal or paralegal services, grant development, and/or providing administrative support to a business, organization, or program.
  • A completed Local Government Specialist Flex 1 Training Plan OR Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in Advocacy, Self-Management, Teaches Others, and Technical Competence.
  • A completed Local Government Specialist Flex 2 Training Plan OR Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in Advocacy, Self-Management, Teaches Others, and Technical Competence.

Responsibilities
