About The Position

The Liquor Department Manager is a primary contact for Safeway customers and provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. The manager is accountable for department results, including superior customer service, increased sales, improved gain, and cost containment. This hourly, non-exempt position oversees the beer, wine, and liquor area, maintains inventory and cleanliness, and follows company merchandising, tobacco, and liquor sales policies. The position reports to the Store Manager, 1st or 2nd Assistant Manager, or Person in Charge.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service within the scope of the position and company policy.
• Train, schedule, supervise, and assign duties to Liquor Clerks to meet staffing needs.
• Speak with customers to resolve problems involving sales, service, products, or department operations.
• Face shelves to company standards and maintain cleanliness of the liquor area.
• Replace stock in displays and maintain the beer, wine, and liquor area.
• Rotate and rework cooler stock for convenient access and display.
• Perform daily inventory, order necessary product quantities from vendors, and maintain appropriate store inventory.
• Check incoming loads for shortages, maintain the backroom area, and keep paperwork filed.
• Return excessive product to the backroom and inventory, and complete BRI.
• Make signs indicating display-item prices as needed; change signs and prices as directed by merchandising.
• Operate a computerized cash register and credit card scanner; total purchases, accept payment, and provide correct change.
• Follow division guidelines for merchandising programs and company tobacco and liquor sales policies.
• Adhere to federal, state, and local laws, safety policies, and store rules.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
