About The Position

The Liquor Department Manager provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service to Safeway customers and is accountable for department results, including superior service, increasing sales, improving gain, and containing costs. The manager oversees the beer, wine, and liquor area, maintains inventory and department cleanliness, and ensures the department follows company merchandising, safety, tobacco, and liquor sales policies. This is an hourly, non-exempt position that reports to the Store Manager, 1st or 2nd Assistant Manager, or Person in Charge.

Responsibilities

Provide customer service within the scope of the position and company policy, including advising customers on liquor purchases.
Train, schedule, assign duties to, and supervise Liquor Clerks to meet department staffing needs.
Address customer problems involving sales, service dissatisfaction, products, or department operations.
Face shelves to company standards and maintain the cleanliness of the liquor area.
Replace stock in displays and oversee beer, wine, and liquor inventory, including rotating and reworking cooler stock for convenient access and display.
Conduct daily floor-stock inventory, order necessary merchandise from vendors, and maintain appropriate store inventory.
Check deliveries for shortages, maintain the backroom area, and follow accurate inventory procedures.
Return excessive product to the backroom and inventory, and complete BRI.
Change signs and prices as directed by merchandising and make signs for display prices when needed.
Operate a computerized cash register and credit card scanner; total purchases, accept payment, and provide correct change.
Maintain paperwork in files.
Follow division merchandising guidelines, federal, state, and local laws, safety policies, store rules, and company tobacco and liquor sales policies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
