About The Position

The Liquor Department Manager is a primary contact for Safeway customers and provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. The manager is accountable for department results, including delivering superior service, increasing sales, improving gain, and containing costs. This hourly, non-exempt role oversees the beer, wine, and liquor area, maintains appropriate inventory and department cleanliness, and follows company policies and applicable laws. The position reports to the Store Manager, 1st or 2nd Assistant Manager, or Person in Charge.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service in accordance with employer expectations and company policy, including advising customers on liquor purchases.
• Train, schedule, supervise, and assign duties to Liquor Clerks to ensure appropriate staffing.
• Resolve customer concerns related to sales, service, products, or department operations.
• Face shelves to company standards and replace stock in displays as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness of the liquor area.
• Rotate and rework cooler stock for convenient access and display.
• Conduct daily floor-stock inventory and order necessary merchandise quantities from vendors.
• Maintain accurate inventory procedures, check deliveries for shortages, manage the backroom area, and keep paperwork on file.
• Return excessive product to the backroom and inventory, and complete BRI.
• Implement merchandising programs according to division guidelines and change signs and prices as directed; may make display price signs.
• Operate a computerized cash register and credit card scanner; total purchases, receive payment, and provide correct change.
• Follow federal, state, and local laws, safety policies, store rules, and company tobacco and liquor sales policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
