Under the direction of the Aquatics Director and in accordance with Association policies, the Lifeguard should be able to motivate others in the areas of self-awareness and self-confidence through swimming and aquatics, be able to motivate and effectively communicate with members, parents and students, and exercise mature judgment and sound decision-making. The Lifeguard will maintain safe swimming conditions, prevent accidents by scanning assigned zones, enforce health and safety rules, and maintain emergency readiness. They will respond to emergency situations, create a welcoming environment, develop rapport with members and staff, and work effectively as part of a team. Responsibilities also include completing incident reports, performing routine maintenance of pool and locker rooms, checking equipment, setting up and putting away equipment, and participating in mandatory in-service trainings. The Lifeguard must uphold the core values of the YMCA and work scheduled shifts, with prior approval needed for any substitute arrangements.
