About The Position

Zipliens is hiring a senior-level Lien Resolution Strategist to manage Single Event medical lien files for a select group of customers. The strategist owns files from intake through final resolution, sets negotiation strategy and settlement targets, and resolves complex claims involving Medicare/MSP, Medicaid, ERISA/self-funded plans, hospital and provider liens, and VA/TRICARE. The role works closely with customers, Customer Success, Agency Management, medical review, Product, and Development to provide a high-touch customer experience and improve how Single Event lien resolution is performed. This position combines hands-on negotiation and case ownership with process development. The strategist tests approaches and workflows on live files, maintains playbooks, helps establish productivity and capacity benchmarks, and gives practical feedback on portal features and automation. They are expected to apply in-depth knowledge of federal and state lien rules, maintain accurate documentation, and share relevant legal, regulatory, and industry changes with the team.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in medical lien resolution or subrogation, including direct negotiation of medical liens.
  • Hands-on experience across multiple lien types, including Medicare/MSP conditional payments, Medicaid, ERISA/self-funded plans, and hospital and provider liens.
  • Working knowledge of the rules governing lien types, including the Medicare Secondary Payer Act, ERISA plan language and preemption, and state lien statutes and reduction doctrines such as made-whole and common fund.
  • Strong negotiation skills and a record of securing meaningful reductions from providers, insurers, and government payers, including disputed or high-value liens.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently resolve complex files involving multiple liens, disputed amounts, appeals, and waiver or compromise requests.
  • Customer-first approach, proactive communication, and reliability throughout resolution.
  • Clear and confident written and verbal communication, including the ability to advise attorneys on lien strategy and settlement impact in plain terms.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify errors in billing, records, and plan language that affect outcomes.
  • Experience improving work processes, such as writing procedures or playbooks, piloting approaches, or helping implement a new system; ability to explain reasoning so it can be documented, taught, and incorporated into tools.
  • Comfort working on a small, collaborative team where processes are still being defined and approaches are tested and adjusted.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without employer-sponsored visa support now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Own a caseload of Single Event medical lien files from intake through final resolution across Medicare/MSP, Medicaid, ERISA/self-funded plans, hospital and provider liens, and VA/TRICARE.
  • Independently set negotiation strategies and settlement targets, determine when leadership review is needed, and approve settlement terms within defined authority limits.
  • Analyze medical records, billing, insurance information, plan language, and other supporting documents to identify opportunities for lien reduction.
  • Negotiate lien reductions with healthcare providers, insurers, and government payers, including handling disputes, appeals, and waiver or compromise requests where applicable.
  • Communicate directly with customers throughout resolution, confirm case details and settlement nuances, advise on lien strategy and settlement impact, and explain complex positions and outcomes.
  • Maintain the quality and accuracy of each file throughout its lifecycle and document lien resolution activity in accordance with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with Customer Success to co-own customer relationships, including regular touch-base calls and clear customer updates.
  • Work with Agency Management to apply agreed standards and procedures with agencies and lienholders, and flag what is working or needs to change.
  • Partner with the medical review team to define and incorporate medical review into Single Event lien-resolution workflows.
  • Test new R&D initiatives on live files and share feedback on results before broader rollout.
  • Determine which file steps to retain and which to delegate to support team members, and coordinate delegated work.
  • Collaborate with the Sr. Director, Product, and Development teams to design and refine workflows for each medical lien type.
  • Pilot workflows and approaches on live files, including negotiation tactics, sequencing, and documentation standards, and report results so effective practices can be shared.
  • Own and maintain playbooks for assigned lien types, refining them as approaches are tested and Single Event lien resolution scales.
  • Help establish productivity and capacity benchmarks for the team.
  • Provide hands-on feedback on portal features and automated workflows to help ensure tools reflect how the work is done in practice.
  • Apply knowledge of federal and state lien rules to file strategy and complex issues.
  • Stay current on lien-resolution law, regulations, and industry practices, and share relevant changes with the team.
