About The Position

NaphCare is hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse to provide healthcare at the William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility in Bessemer, Alabama. The role involves working alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to care for incarcerated individuals with complex medical needs in a controlled environment where security is a priority. The LPN helps protect patients’ rights, dignity, and health by providing clinical care and supporting their ongoing healthcare needs.

Requirements

• Graduate from a Licensed Practical Nursing program.
• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Active state certification as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
• Active BLS CPR certification; American Heart Association certification is preferred.
• Ability to maintain the confidentiality of proprietary and confidential information.
• Integrity and professionalism, and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with facility correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
• Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.
• Ability to stand for long periods; lift and move patients weighing up to 50 pounds; bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks such as CPR; and maintain balance and endurance throughout a shift.

Nice To Haves

• American Heart Association BLS CPR certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient assessments and interview patients about current health problems and medication history.
• Take vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, and weight.
• Provide wound care, including cleaning and bandaging injured areas.
• Administer medications, including injections, and monitor patients’ reactions to medications.
• Maintain medical records, including entering information into the TechCare electronic health record.
• Observe patients’ physical and mental health status.
• Provide emergency first aid.
• Provide patient education and discharge or release planning.
