About The Position

The Department of Sociology and Criminology & Justice Studies at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2026 to teach SOC 315: Gender in Society. The course focuses on the development of gender identity and socialization, how notions of femininity and masculinity are shaped by social institutions (family, work, media, education), and how these definitions change across the life course. It also emphasizes variations in gender relations across different communities based on race and ethnicity, sexuality, age, socioeconomic class, and nationality.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in the area of instruction or a closely related field.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the State of California.

Responsibilities

  • Teach SOC 315: Gender in Society during the Fall 2026 semester.
  • Deliver instruction on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 p.m. to 6:50 p.m. in person.
  • Engage students in understanding the social context of gender identity and socialization.
  • Facilitate discussions on how gender roles are shaped by various social institutions.
  • Explore the variations in gender relations across different communities and demographics.

  • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,507 - $8,000 per full-time month.
  • CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer A - AY: $5,507 - $6,677 per full-time month.
  • CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer B - AY: $6,221 - $13,224 per full-time month.
