About The Position

This is a part-time, temporary lecturer position for the Fall 2026 semester in the Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN) discipline at Honolulu Community College. The role is part of a lecturer candidate pool, is non-tenurial, and assignments are made as needed, contingent upon funding, satisfactory performance, and staffing requirements. The position requires teaching assigned courses, maintaining office hours, providing instruction to meet student learning objectives, preparing course materials, and working collaboratively with the discipline coordinator and division chairperson. Commitment to community college principles and philosophy is essential. The role may involve evening and weekend teaching, on-campus, off-campus at military bases, secondary education sites (high schools), and/or distance learning assignments via the internet. This is not a remote position. Specific teaching fields may have openings only for classes on military bases or taught online. Teaching on a military base requires a Department of Defense security clearance, and teaching Early College courses for DOE schools requires background checks.

Requirements

Master’s in Food and Nutrition, Food and Nutritional Science, Food Science and Human Nutrition, Food Science, Nutrition Science, Nutritional Sciences, Human Nutrition, Nutrition, Nutrition and Dietetics, Nutrition-Dietetics, Dietetics, Dietetics and Food Administration; or, Bachelor’s in Food and Nutrition, Food and Nutritional Science, Food Science and Human Nutrition, Food Science, Nutrition Science, Nutritional Sciences, Human Nutrition, Nutrition, Nutrition and Dietetics, Nutrition-Dietetics, Dietetics, Dietetics and Food Administration plus 3 years of related work or teaching experience; or, Registered Dietitian (RD) plus 3 years related work or teaching experience.

Demonstrated ability to work with community college students.
Work experience related to course to be taught.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
Familiarity with competency-based instruction and behavioral objectives.
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student populations.
Experience in the use of technology to support instruction and student success, including but not limited to LMS, CRM, Early Alert and presentation software.
A willingness to adapt to new technology platforms.

Responsibilities

Teach assigned courses in the discipline.
Maintain at least one office hour per week for each class taught.
Provide instruction and guidance to meet student learning objectives.
Prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress.
Work under supervision of discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area.
Student and peer evaluations and self-assessment of teaching effectiveness are required.
Be available for evening and weekend teaching assignments.
Be available for teaching on campus, off-campus at military bases, secondary education sites (high schools) and/or distance learning assignments for courses taught via the internet.
