About The Position

The Department of American Indian Studies at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2026 to teach Lecturer- AIS 420: American Indian Leadership: Sustaining Indigenous Knowledge. This course considers leadership from an American Indian/Indigenous perspective, including themes such as leadership that promotes tribal sovereignty, tribal knowledge, and social justice. It covers traditional approaches to leadership valued in contemporary times, as well as current leadership issues and challenges associated with tribal sovereignty, self-determination, governance, decision-making, values, culture, and policy development and implementation. The course includes the study, analysis, and recognition of individual American Indian leaders.

Requirements

  • A master's degree or equivalent in American Indian Studies or related discipline.
  • Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.

  • Commitment to serving the campus community as it relates to teaching and, as applicable, service.
