About The Position

The Department of American Indian Studies at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2026 to teach Lecturer- AIS 260: RUMBLE: American Indians and Rock & Roll. This course explores how Native American culture and music influenced “mainstream” American popular music and impacted and influenced Rock ‘n’ Roll. Students will engage in central questions surrounding human diversity such as race, gender, social equity, and how American Indian music has influenced Rock ‘n’ Roll in the U.S. and globally. Special attention is given to how Native American music and culture was both legally suppressed and commercially celebrated throughout history.

Requirements

  • A master's degree or equivalent in American Indian Studies or related discipline.
  • Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Higher Education teaching experience preferred.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving our campus community as it relates to teaching and, as applicable, service.
