About The Position

The Lead Steward is a full-time overnight role in the University of Notre Dame’s campus Hospitality department. The position helps maintain the cleanliness, safety, and efficiency of kitchen operations while providing leadership in dishwashing, inventory management, and preparation for banquets and events. The Lead Steward also supports the team in upholding Notre Dame’s Pillars of Hospitality: being Welcoming, Consistent, Professional, and Joyful.

Requirements

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented kitchen environment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and organization.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, bend to clean floor drains, and climb equipment or ladders.
• Dependability and a positive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Oversee cleaning of dishware, pots, utensils, and glassware, ensuring proper procedures are followed to minimize breakage.
• Prepare the dishwasher, ensure it is loaded properly, and return cleaned items to their correct storage areas.
• Maintain accurate inventory records and order supplies and equipment.
• Work with the culinary department to plan food, supplies, and staffing needs for scheduled banquets and events.
• Oversee daily sanitation procedures and maintain a safe, sanitary work environment.
• Remove trash and perform directed cleaning tasks, including mopping floors and deep cleaning kitchen areas.
• Ensure the team upholds the Pillars of Hospitality: Welcoming, Consistent, Professional, and Joyful.
