About The Position

The Registered Dental Assistant (R.D.A.) is responsible for providing the highest quality care to all FHCCGLA patients. This role involves performing a variety of laboratory and patient care duties, including assisting the D.D.S. with restorative dentistry or oral surgery treatment procedures, such as sterilizing instruments, preparing patients for treatment, and preparing materials and equipment. The R.D.A. also takes X-rays, ensures accurate dental billing, and performs other office-related tasks like making appointments, answering the phone, and ordering supplies. Requirements

  • High school graduate (or GED), required.
  • Current CPR Certification - required to be kept up to date.
  • Computer knowledge (e.g., NextGen (E.H.R. & PMS), Microsoft Word and Excel), preferred.
  • FQHC experience, highly preferred.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Strong self-motivation skills to take initiative to ensure all tasks performed are completed thoroughly, accurately, and timely.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish and familiarity with the Hispanic culture, preferred.

  • Proof of completing radiation safety course.
  • One-year experience as a registered dental assistant.
  • Certification as a Registered Dental Assistant required.
  • Certificate for coronal polishing recommended.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of dental health education subjects.
  • Ability to complete forms in an orderly and accurate fashion.
  • Familiar with computer-based dental recording and charting.
  • Proficient at digital radiographs.
  • Ability to work well with others in a professional and team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients in the waiting area and escorts them to the vital/intake area to record vital signs.
  • Assists the dentist in the administration of treatment at the chairside as required or directed by the dentist.
  • Promotes an atmosphere supportive of good dental and general health by demonstrating good oral hygiene, questioning patients about home care status, and instructing patients in flossing and brushing techniques.
  • Maintains a sterile and neat working environment according to current infection control procedures.
  • Reviews health history, makes chart entries under the direction of the operator, and ensures completion of forms and signatures.
  • Assumes responsibility for any expanded duties delegated by the dentist.
  • Familiarizes patients with their dental visit and provides support and compassion.
  • Stocks operatories and maintains clinical supply inventory.
  • Reviews daily schedule to set up appropriate trays and instruments.
  • Assists in front office procedures if time allows or if the need is determined by the Dental Director or Dentist.
  • Maintains preventive maintenance of dental equipment.
  • Serves as supply liaison, communicating with the purchasing department and vendors to ensure prompt receipt of all orders.
  • Performs duties within their scope of R.D.A./D.A. such as assisting providers with Endodontics, placing bases and liners, removing excess cement, sizing stainless steel crowns, temporary cementation and removal, placement of post-extraction and periodontal dressings, taking bite registrations, coronal polishing, and X-rays.
  • Promotes and believes in FHCCGLA’s mission statement.
  • Participates in in-services and educational classes to maintain skills competency and current knowledge.
  • Ability to relate to the public regardless of ethnicity, religion, and economic status.
  • Responsible for following all agency safety and health standards, regulations, procedures, policies, and practices.
  • Identifies, initiates, and implements measures to deliver high-quality care and improve services.
  • Responds efficiently and timely to all patient and provider staff needs and inquiries.
  • Ensures excellent customer service to all FHCCGLA patients.
  • Works with the site operations manager to manage patient scheduling and flow.
  • Handles patient grievances according to FHCCGLA’s Policy & Procedure.
  • Assists in developing, updating, and reviewing FHCCGLA Policies & Procedures (P&P’s) as needed.
  • Ensures HIPAA compliance by maintaining strict confidentiality of all patient data and E.H.R./Practice Management System (PMS).
  • Participates in mandatory Quarterly Staff Trainings.
  • Manages inventory of dental supplies and equipment, clinic maintenance, and assists with placing orders and verifying receipt.
  • Trains junior dental assistants, providing guidance on clinical procedures, patient management, and administrative tasks.
  • Helps the dental manager ensure accuracy and compliance with infection control, Dental logs, and procedures.
  • Leads Dental morning Huddles when the dental manager is not available.
  • Monitors back office workflow to ensure efficient patient flow.
  • Directs R.D.A.’s & D.A. staff as needed during the workday.
  • Uses critical thinking and organizational skills to ensure patients are processed and seen in a timely manner.
  • Ensures daily required breaks are taken timely by the R.D.A.’s/D.A.’s.
  • Remains consistently informed of current legal and regulatory changes related to scope of practice, specific programs/payors, insurances accepted, and services offered.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all H.R. or other highly confidential matters.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.
