Lead, Quality Software Performance
About The Position
The Lead, Quality Software Performance will join the Construction Technology team as a hybrid employee, working three days in Towson. This hands-on role leads performance engineering initiatives across software applications and services, identifying performance risks early in the development lifecycle and recommending mitigation strategies. The role establishes performance engineering standards, frameworks, and best practices and promotes a performance-by-design culture across teams. The position develops realistic workload models for normal, peak, stress, spike, and endurance scenarios; builds reusable Gatling frameworks and libraries; analyzes test reports and metrics; and creates scripts and tools to generate test data, orchestrate workloads, validate responses, and automate test execution. It defines performance objectives, service-level agreements, response-time targets, throughput requirements, and capacity expectations. The role partners with development, architecture, DevOps, and Product teams to help deliver scalable and reliable applications. The role offers a salary range of $95,600 to $153,900 annually, depending on factors including job level, location, job-related knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and local wage requirements. The successful candidate may be eligible for annual merit increases. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 7+ years of experience building performance automation frameworks and reusable testing utilities.
- Strong hands-on experience with Gatling, Node.js, JavaScript, and/or TypeScript for developing complex performance test simulations.
- Proficiency with observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, Dynatrace, New Relic, Splunk, or OpenTelemetry.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Experience analyzing application behavior under load and identifying performance bottlenecks.
- Experience defining performance objectives, service-level expectations, and capacity requirements.
- Strong collaboration skills with development, architecture, DevOps, and Product teams.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
Responsibilities

- Define performance objectives, SLAs, response-time targets, throughput requirements, and capacity expectations.
- Partner with development, architecture, DevOps, and Product teams to deliver scalable and reliable applications.
