About The Position

TransUnion Consumer Interactive develops and supports consumer-facing credit monitoring and protection applications. This role joins an established engineering team collaborating across the United States and India, building reliable digital experiences and exploring how AI and Generative AI can improve code quality, reduce defects, increase development efficiency, and enhance customer experiences. The position reports to the Senior Manager of Application Development and is hybrid, with regular virtual work and in-person work at an assigned TU office for a minimum of two days per week. The Lead, Full Stack Engineer leads technical design and hands-on development of customer-facing web applications, Java backend services, microservices, and RESTful APIs. The role translates requirements into detailed designs, drives projects from design through implementation, and remains actively involved in coding while guiding and mentoring junior and mid-level engineers. It also supports production applications, coordinates releases across geographies and time zones, and contributes to Agile and software quality practices. The engineer evaluates and applies AI and Generative AI technologies to software development and production applications, including potential use of LLMs, RAG, AI-powered search, and AI-enabled capabilities. The role promotes responsible adoption of AI-assisted development tools and mentors engineers on practical applications. Requirements

At least 10 years of software-development experience, including at least 8 years of hands-on experience in the Java and Spring ecosystem.
Ability to design and code hands-on rather than operate solely as a project or people leader.
Full-stack engineering experience building production web applications, backend services, microservices, and RESTful APIs.
Experience leading technical projects, producing detailed application designs, conducting code reviews, and mentoring junior and mid-level engineers.
Experience supporting production applications, investigating technical issues, troubleshooting front-end and backend components, and collaborating with production-support teams.
Practical experience applying AI or Generative AI in software-engineering environments, such as for development, testing, defect reduction, troubleshooting, documentation, or productivity.
Advanced hands-on experience with Java, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Hibernate, microservices architecture, RESTful APIs/Web Services, and SOAP/REST integration.
Full-stack experience with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and jQuery, including troubleshooting front-end and backend components.
Strong experience with Oracle Database, SQL programming, relational database design, data structures and algorithms, system design, JSON, YAML, and JUnit-based unit and integration testing.
Development and production-support experience using Git, Maven, Jenkins, Splunk, Grafana, SonarQube, Linux/Unix, and shell scripting.
Working knowledge of LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, AI-powered search, and AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or comparable platforms.

Nice To Haves

Experience with React and modern front-end development frameworks.
Experience with Docker, containerization, WildFly, WebLogic, or Content Management System platforms such as LiveSite.
Experience with Azure OpenAI, OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, or comparable AI and Generative AI platforms.
Experience building AI-powered customer experiences such as intelligent search, conversational assistants, personalized recommendations, and workflow automation.
Experience applying security, governance, privacy, and responsible AI practices when evaluating or implementing AI-enabled solutions.

Responsibilities

Lead technical design and hands-on development of customer-facing web applications, Java-based backend services, microservices, and RESTful APIs.
Translate business and technical requirements into detailed application designs and independently drive projects from design through implementation.
Continue hands-on coding while guiding junior and mid-level engineers, reviewing code, and promoting software-engineering best practices.
Develop and support full-stack solutions using Java, Spring Boot, Oracle/SQL, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and related technologies.
Partner with production-support teams to investigate application issues, troubleshoot front-end and backend components, identify root causes, and share findings with the development team.
Coordinate software releases and technical changes across teams in different geographies and time zones.
Participate in Agile planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, code reviews, unit testing, integration testing, and continuous-improvement activities.
Evaluate and apply AI and Generative AI technologies to improve code quality, reduce defects, automate engineering activities, and increase development efficiency.
Explore integrating LLMs, RAG, AI-powered search, and other AI-enabled capabilities into production applications.
Promote responsible adoption of AI-assisted development tools and mentor engineers on practical AI use cases in software development and product delivery.
