Sargent & Lundy•Augusta, GA
•$118,023 - $180,313•Hybrid

About The Position

The Lead Electrical Engineer will lead a project team of engineers and designers working on the design, modification, and analysis of electrical systems for nuclear-material processing, nuclear-waste treatment, storage and disposal systems, and commercial nuclear power plants. The role involves challenging assignments in electrical system design, investigation, troubleshooting, and problem solving, and offers a hybrid work arrangement with a mix of work from home and office work. The position leads detailed electrical design activities and helps ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget. Work includes coordinating system designs to meet specifications, codes, and client requirements; preparing and reviewing electrical calculations and design documentation; interfacing with vendors on equipment and material specifications; preparing technical reports and studies; and independently reviewing others’ calculations and drawings. The engineer also mentors less experienced engineers and develops expertise through peer learning and Sargent & Lundy’s Communities of Practice. The role is within Sargent & Lundy’s Government Services Division, which provides engineering design and consulting support to U.S. Department of Energy sites, national laboratories, and National Nuclear Security Administration sites. Its projects include facilities, systems, and equipment for treating, storing, and disposing of nuclear waste and safely handling and processing nuclear material.

  • Experience selecting equipment, materials, and control philosophies, and preparing and assembling calculations and specifications.
  • Experience designing electrical systems, including low-voltage distribution systems such as transformers, generators, and motors; communication systems; equipment selection; and analytical calculations.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading an engineering design team through all phases of a project design.
  • Technical knowledge of available equipment and proven pre-engineered systems used to execute systems design.
  • Experience serving as a firm/client liaison in a support or lead engineering role.
  • Experience reviewing design drawings created by others.
