About The Position

Assist management with store operations by performing clerk duties in the designated grocery or freight department, leading by example, and assisting the department manager with general department operations as directed. Provide fast, friendly customer service, respond professionally to customer questions and complaints, and perform grocery clerk, cashier, and/or freight stocker duties. Support assigned employees in their tasks, including coordinating breaks and lunches. Other related work may be assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Communicate clearly and professionally, using strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, and establish and maintain rapport with coworkers, supervisors, vendors, customers, and others.
Provide leadership and maintain composure and professionalism when addressing difficult or angry customers, vendors, and coworkers.
Understand company practices, policies, and procedures well enough to assess and respond appropriately to customer activity.
Demonstrate initiative and self-direction while multitasking across a variety of duties.
Conduct visual inspections and read reports, computer printouts, register screens, and computer screens.
Perform basic arithmetic and compute weights and measures.
Perform primary duties efficiently and accurately with honesty and integrity.
Meet the minimum age requirement: 18 in Montana and Oregon; 21 in all other states.
Work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Perform duties described in the applicable grocery clerk, cashier, and/or freight stocker job description.
Understand company practices through prior experience in the designated department or equivalent.
Use cleaning chemicals properly in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and instructions.
Handle food products in accordance with state and county laws and WinCo standards.
Reach, lift, and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to 50 pounds frequently.
Stand for long periods and frequently walk, move rapidly, bend, stoop, twist, and turn.
Maintain mental alertness while performing duties involving potential hazards related to procedures, machines, equipment, and work aids.
Understand state and federal regulations when certification is needed.
Hold a Food Handlers Certification where required by state law.

Responsibilities

Welcome, engage, serve, and thank customers while maintaining a friendly, enthusiastic customer-service atmosphere.
Perform clerk duties in the designated grocery or freight department; refer to the applicable Grocery Clerk, Cashier/Checker, and/or Freight Stocker job descriptions for full responsibilities.
Handle customer complaints and requests, approve checks, sell gift certificates, issue refunds, receive returned check payments, and answer customer questions as needed.
Monitor activity in the assigned area, including customer traffic and checkout-lane coverage.
Maintain cleanliness and appearance of work, storage, and retail areas and equipment; clean by mopping, sweeping, and removing garbage as needed.
Keep the department or assigned area clear of excess carts, baskets, and garbage.
Monitor employee arrivals, breaks, lunches, and departures, and communicate regularly with the immediate supervisor.
Assist the immediate supervisor as needed or directed.
Provide direction and leadership to clerks, demonstrate and perform clerk duties, and answer employee questions.
Monitor cashier money-handling procedures and assist with scan-system issues, such as UPC codes not on file and scan-pricing errors, as needed.
Stock department racks, shelves, displays, and coolers; use cleaning materials, department machines, and equipment; pull cardboard; face walls and aisles; and perform cashiering or other duties as needed.
Maintain awareness of customer and employee safety.
Stock and rotate merchandise in any store area as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
